Thanks James - this is what I don't understand. Given that education is a government-mandated requirement federal or state), how can it incorporate religious beliefs?

This is an Aussie joke, and I'm not an Aussie ...
Sheila: 'Bruce, I'm pregnant, and if you don't marry me I'm going to throw myself off the Sydney Harbour Bridge'
Bruce: 'Jeez, Sheila, I knew you were a good lay but I didn't realise you were such a good sport'.

Wife's FS report for last month... Zero!
by Captain Obvious ini could just be reading too far into this but... even with plenty of opportunities and time to go, she didn't seem to make it out last month.
last night she said she was gonna go out today (the 1st) but... she's downstairs at the moment sipping coffee watching tv.
a few weeks ago on the long drive back from the assembly we talked about fs.

"Hey Joe, If the WTS says you will be happy, you will be happy. If not, it is because you have a bad attitude and lack faith."
Blondie, I've picked this up from so many posts here on JWN over the years and, TBH, it makes me so sad for all the wasted hours, years and lives. At least when I was a cop and trudging round doors I was getting paid for it and we had a purpose in mind!
My last encounter with a dub in FS was with a bright young college-age guy with a younger lad in tow. He explained to me how carbon dating was wrong, Adam was created c.6,500 years ago, and so on. I didn't argue except to suggest he do some research. He was obviously 'lacking in joy' and I'm not surprised, poor guy. I just didn't have the heart to beat him down further than I think he already was. I came away from the encounter thinking even more 'this is a sad and evil cult' which is not, of course, supposed to be the outcome of FS.

Blondie,
Respect and adoration to you as always!
I never was a dub but this: " invite the one who seems to lack joy to accompany you in the ministry." made me laugh in view of the many, many posts here from those who have 'enjoyed' FS.
Seems to me that those who 'lack joy' (why do WTBTS use such weird language?) are hardly likely to cheer up after a good bout of useless door-knocking in the cold and rain. More likely to make them suicidal, I would have thought!

If there is a creator, will an expanding universe ever become bigger than he?
by prologos inthe bible has expressions like: "--god walked in the garden at the breezy part of the day--" .
but more realisticly, speaking in today's lingo:.
if, as accepted by consensus, the universe was "smaller" in the past, expanding out of a zero size singularity, it was "smaller" than the "creator"* at that point in time.

" but if we agree there must be creator, creatrice,"
We don't.

"This would IMHO be difficult to do in the U.S. for private or religious schools, given the constitutional freedom of speech and religious freedom issues."
This is something I find difficult to understand - due, no doubt, to my imperfect understanding of the US constitution. I understand the right to 'free speech' and I think I have knowledge of the historical 'separation of Church and State'. But I thought that the latter meant that anyone can practice any religion they want but that governmental obligations were or should be entirely a-religious.
If the education of children is a government requirement (federal and/or state) in whatever form it takes (including 'home-schooling') doesn't that mean that the curriculum should be a-religious to comply with the constitution? Even if other, additional, 'religious' schooling is permissible as an 'extra'?
Does the constitution also guarantee a freedom FROM religion of whatever brand?

"Is it also an issue in Islamic schools?"
Yes it is, at least here in the UK, and with Jewish schools. All 'faith' schools, really.
Dawkins did a programme(s?) on 'faith schools in the UK some time ago for UK Channel 4 TV (I think) which I found quite worrying. Despite government oversight of the curriculum there was (he found) unwarranted bias in teaching.

Thanks for making that 'clickable', Cofty.
I was aware of Reg Vardy but kept getting him confused with Reg Varney from 'On The Buses'! (another comedian, but not so dangerous).
My own view is that inculcation of children equates to a form of abuse.
I'd be interested to know how this sort of government declaration would be accepted in the US. o they have an equivalent?

This is just a thought from a never was dub.
WT (and Mormons) could double their coverage if they really wanted to by sending out their people on their own (just as, here, door knockers selling telecoms packages, chugging for charities, etc., do).
I assume (being cynical) that the reason they go in pairs is just in case a dub on FS meets someone who could talk to them and challenge their beliefs. The 'partner' dub is there to prevent that. If my assumption is correct, that says someting about the dubs - about their knowledge and confidence in their faith.

" it was "smaller" than the "Creator"* at that point in time. point in every way."
There's a problem in that assumption, as in this one " If He existed before the physical universe, where did He live?".
If one believes in a supernatural creator then one must also believe that he/she/it didn't have to be of a certain size or 'live' anywhere.
In the world of the supernatural anything which is imagineable is possible (and everything that isn't). That's the whole point of the supernatural.
